The movement called sustainable fashion is becoming more and more popular. As a result, people are interested in buying clothes that last longer and easy to style. Hence, give away those which are no longer needed. Instead of having so much clutter in the closet, look for recycling or donating. Here comes the sustainable fashion movement.
Fast Fashion versus Sustainable Fashion
Forbes recently published an article about sustainable fashion and confirmed that people today are more educated on fabrics, and they prefer natural materials than synthetic, such as cotton and bamboo. As a result of this change in consumer behavior, people can donate some of their excellent condition clothes, which otherwise would not have been possible. The problem with low quality and fast fashion is that clothes get worn off quickly, and their only future is to go to the trash. While buying sustainable clothing allows people to reduce so much waste.
Buy Smart, Donate later
Small steps make a big difference, as we all know. Therefore, there are some actions you can take to upgrade someone’s closet today. Students preparing for an interview need to make a good first impression. So, why not support them?
PAY-IT-FORWARD: DRESS FOR SUCCESS INITIATIVE
If you are interested in giving away some of your awesome pieces there is an upcoming opportunity. Sheridan Career Centre in collaboration with us is organizing an event called “PAY-IT-FORWARD: DRESS FOR SUCCESS INITIATIVE”, and the purpose is to support students both in their journey landing a job and once they are in the workplace.
How does it work?
Students can take 1-2 pieces of professional clothing. In exchange, students have 3 options:
- Donate clean wearable professional clothing.
- Donate canned goods. Collected goods will then be donated to Sheridan’s SSU or a charity/shelter.
- Any amount of money.

Event date: March 5 @ 11:30am to 1:30pm HMC B540.
